The Coral Triangle Initiative Regional Business Forum 2011 is the platform that powers the sustainable growth and development of the Coral Triangle through the concerted efforts of governments and the private sector.

What is the Coral Triangle?

The Coral Triangle is a geographical term referring to a triangular area of the marine waters of Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste.

More species of corals, crustaceans, mollusk, marine plants and fish inhabit these warm tropical waters bounded by the Pacific and Indian Oceans than anywhere else in the world. The Coral Triangle supports the livelihood of more than 120 million people and harvests billions of dollars from commercial sectors such as fisheries, finance and eco and nature-based tourism. This Amazon of the Sea is also recognized as the global epicentre of marine biodiversity and a global priority for conservation. The Coral Triangle Resources, however, are declining due to poor development planning, costal development pressures, destructive fishing practices, overfishing, pollution, a growing population and impacts from global climate change. But hope is not lost - yet.
